bio
louise curtin is a mixed-media visual artist from wilmington north carolina.
louise uses materials traditionally assigned to women’s roles which have been devalued or neglected from the realm of fine art: cotton, acrylic fibers, & yarn; household fabrics & papers; old & discarded clothing; cleaning powders & chemicals.
she was inspired from an early age by her mother’s intricate collages and drawings. she developed a love for the tactile after learning embroidery at a young age and being immersed in her father’s woodworking shop.
from ceramics to felt & textile, and from embroidery & crochet to acrylic paint & mixed media, louise has developed her art through a variety of mediums. A love of texture and organic geometry are fully evident within her diverse catalog.
louise's work is displayed and sold in galleries throughout southeastern north carolina and she curates 'Art at the Hall,' a visual arts gallery in historic thalian hall in downtown wilmington north carolina. louise was nominated as a woman to watch in the arts by WILMA magazine in 2024.
